Background: Marie Imelda Adams passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, with her children by her side. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Harold William, and the members of her immediate family, parents Katherine and Daniel Kelley, siblings Katherine, Edward and Greg, mother-in-law Barbara Gilfoy and brother-in-law Donald. Marie was born in Charlottetown, PEI on June 1, 1931. She was a proud 1950 graduate of Saint Dunstan's University in Charlottetown and left Prince Edward Island to pursue other opportunities in Halifax after graduation. Marie and Harold returned to the Island many times to go to Old Home Week and Curran/Mooney family reunions. Marie was so happy when her dream was realized, and she bought a cottage on Panmure Island in eastern PEI. Many happy hours were enjoyed there by all members of the family. A woman of deep faith and strong ethics, Marie volunteered her time with Catholic charities devoted to helping others in need including Hope Cottage and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Marie's other passions were opera and classical music and the written word. Her life was grounded in family. It was important to her to provide a place for family to gather, be it in the family home in Halifax or the cottage in PEI. She was always present for her children, Edward (Kim), Katherine (Robin) and Jane (John) and enjoyed chatting about many current events, ranging from politics to sports (especially the Habs). Her beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Jillian, Aislinn, Angus, Garrett, Eleanor, and Rhys who will miss her sharp wit and the many shared meals and cards played around the dining room table in the family home. She lives on through her great-grandchildren, Simon and Malin. This award is established by Marie's family as a tangible legacy to her time at Saint Dunstan's University and as a reminder that her heart never left Prince Edward Island.
