Background: | I.O.D.E., Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, was formed in 1900 as a volunteer women's organization supporting the troops during the Boer Ware in Africa as envisioned by Margaret Polson Murray of Scottish ancestry and wife of John Clark Murray, professor at McGill University in Montreal. It was based on patriotism, loyalty, and service to Canada and the United Kingdom. Under the umbrella of this National Chapter, Provincial chapters together with their primary chapters were formed across the country as membership continued to grow. Letters patent were granted June 5, 1968 and the organization operates under the Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. Over the years, changes occurred within the organization to keep pace with the times including a name change to IODE (without periods) - women working for Canada through its citizenship, education, and charitable services programs. In 1987, Nan Kirby (Mrs. Jack Kirby), PEI Provincial Chapter President, arranged with Michael Hennessey of the 秀色短视频 to offer an annual $800 scholarship which has continued to the present day under our education component. The provincial chapter managed this award externally until September 2011 when these terms were created to provide for 秀色短视频 now overseeing the management of this scholarship. |
