Background: This generous scholarship is possible due to generous annual donations by Earl Foster, son of Mildred and Earl Sr. Mildred Irene (Coffin) and Earl William George Foster Sr. from Prince Edward Island knew the importance of obtaining a good education. Having both received a post-secondary education they had the freedom to work in careers that were both enjoyable and rewarding. Mildred, who loved children, was a graduate of Prince of Wales College. Her education opened the door to a rewarding teaching career. For 33 years, Mildred was a dedicated teacher in Eastern Prince Edward Island, and also taught at the Model School at the Prince of Wales College. She was strongly committed to education and the well-being of children. During her career, she touched the lives of many children who were fortunate enough to be students in her classroom. Earl Sr., who had a passion for farming and agriculture, was a graduate of the College of Agriculture (now called the Nova Scotia Agricultural College), in Truro, Nova Scotia. His education provided him with the knowledge needed to work with the Government of Prince Edward Island as a potato inspector, and then in the registration of swine. Both positions allowed him to spend his time on farms across Prince Edward Island. He had his own family farm in York, which he operated. He also had an interest in real estate. In addition to farming and teaching, Earl Sr. and Mildred held an interest in musical talent. To commemorate his parent's memory and continue their message about education, their son, Earl Foster, has created the Mildred I. and Earl W.G. Foster Sr. Memorial Scholarship, which will assist Island students in achieving their educational goals.
