Sessional Instructor - Department of Biology - Faculty of Science - Summer 2025
The Department of Biology at the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ has an opening for Sessional Lecturers during the first Summer Semesters 2025 (May 12 – June 27), and the second Summer Session (June 30 – August 18) subject to final budgetary approval.
Individuals qualified to teach the following courses are encouraged to apply.
Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
2nd Summer Session (June 30 – August 18, 2025)
BIO 1060 INTRODUCTORY MICROBIOLOGY FOR HEALTH SCIENCES
This course is an introduction to the basic concepts and principles of microbiology. The structure and function of the major groups—viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa—which affect human health, are studied. Topics include the process of disease transmission, immunology, physical and chemical methods of disease prevention and control, as well as major infectious diseases of the body systems.
Three hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory per week
Classes: M/W 12:00 – 12:50 p.m.
Labs: M/W 3:30 – 5:50 p.m.
Note: The instructor will be responsible for teaching both lecture and lab.
BIO 1220 HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
This course deals with the functioning of the human body. The physiology of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems is surveyed.
Three hours lecture, 2.5 hours laboratory a week
Classes: T/TH 12:00 – 12:50 p.m.
Labs: T/TH 3:30 – 5:50 p.m.
Note: Although there is a lab associated with this course, the sessional lecturer will be responsible for teaching the lecture component only.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. or other degree that qualifies them to teach this course. Documented experience teaching is preferred.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Sessional Roster, and to those with experience in teaching university level courses.
SALARY: As per Sessional Instructor Stipends outlined in the Collective Agreement of the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1, subject to final budgetary approval.
