The Asian and Korean Studies Programme, Faculty of Arts, 秀色短视频 invites applications for a sessional teaching position during the winter 2025 semester, January 6鈥揂pril 25, 2025. We are seeking a well-qualified candidate to teach the following course: 

AST 2301 Korean Religions

(cross-listed with Religious Studies 2301; online; expected enrolment 130)

Course description

This introductory course explores Korean religions by covering shamanism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Christianity, and new religions such as Cheondogyo and Won Buddhism. It utilizes a religious and interdisciplinary approach to discuss their beliefs, traditions, symbols, rituals, moral and philosophical doctrines, and institutional changes. We also consider each religion's influence on contemporary Korean culture and national identity.

Qualifications:

Master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees in Religious Studies (or Philosophy of Religion) are required. Applications with graduate degrees in other programs (disciplines) will not be considered. Qualified candidates are required to have teaching experience in Religious Studies courses such as world religions, East Asian religions, Christianity, and modern religious developments. You should also be very familiar with the traditions and modern developments of Chinese and Korean religious and philosophical traditions, including Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. 

This sessional position is also subject to final budgetary and administrative approval. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the Department of Asian Studies Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
