The Faculty of Education at the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Summer 2025. The offering of the courses is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval. 

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED-3620-99  Communication Practices

This course covers both interpersonal and group communication skills necessary for adult learning. It teaches students to express thoughts and ideas in clear, well-defined terms in oral, print, and digital contexts. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in active listening, public speaking, and small group facilitation, as well as in understanding the variables that affect human communication. Participants are encouraged to identify their own communication challenges through study, research, presentation, and self-reflection.

This course is offered in a hybrid format Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:20pm, from July 7 to July 11, 2025.

ED-4030-2 The Arts and Social Transformation 

This course is an introduction to the Arts and Education. Emphasis is on fostering creativity and critical inquiry through a variety of multi-modal experiences in the arts, the reading of current literature on arts methods and theories, the study of new curricular programs (including the integration of arts with other disciplines), and the role of arts in social transformation.

This course is offered to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:20am from August 1 to August 29, 2025. Classes are also scheduled Friday August 1st and Friday August 22nd

ED-4130-2 Multiliteracies Across the Curriculum 

This course introduces students to the critical, developmental, and pedagogical dimensions of supporting students K-12 as they learn the range of literacies required for life in the twenty-first century.

This course is offered to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 11:20am from May 22 to June 24, 2025. Class is also scheduled on Friday, May 30. 

ED-4220-3 Mathematics for Teachers  (taught in French)

The course provides opportunities for students to reason and make sense of mathematics in meaningful ways by discovering mathematics through inquiry-based instructional methods grounded in real-life contexts. Content will be drawn from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics five content (number & operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis & probability) and process (problem-solving, reasoning & proof, communications, connections, and representation) standards.

This course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 11:20am from July 2 to July 31, 2025.  Class is also scheduled on Friday, July 25. 

ED-4230-3 Les mathématiques au niveau primaire/elémentaire - (taught in French)

This course examines the pedagogy of Primary/Elementary mathematics. Instruction focuses on how children learn mathematics, what it means to engage children in doing mathematics, teaching mathematics through problem solving, and curriculum sequencing. Underlying these foundational ideas for teaching, students will have the opportunity to re-learn key areas of mathematics in a twenty-first century approach to teaching and learning.

This course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am to 11:20am, August 1 to August 29, 2025.  Class is also scheduled Friday August 8 and Friday, August 29. 

ED-4245-1  Inquiry-based Methods in Science and Social Studies

This course introduces pre-service teachers to curriculum integration in Science and Social Studies. Pre-Service Teachers will learn how to use inquiry-based methods to connect
learning with life experiences.

This course is offered to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30pm to 3:20pm, May 22 to June 24, 2025.

ED-4490 Introduction to Indigenous Education (2 English sections/1 French section)

This course is a combination of classroom and community-based learning.  Anchored in L’nu (Mi’kmaq) knowledge, students will learn about ceremony, protocol, Elders and traditional teachers. In turn, these will help foster a mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual understanding of Indigenous worldviews and ways of knowing. This course also introduces Canada’s history of cultural assimilation and genocide imposed upon Indigenous Peoples in Canada. It will discuss why all teachers – and anyone living in Canada – needs to know this history. 

Section 1 is offered in English to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Monday to Friday from 12:30pm to 3:20pm, May 5 to May 20, 2025.  Section 2 is offered in English to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30pm to 3:20pm, May 22 to June 24, 2025. Section 5 is offered in French to students in our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30am to 11:20am, May 22 to June 24, 2025. 

ED-4760-4  Didactique du français au niveau intermédiaire/secondaire  - (taught in French)

In this course, students explore the curriculum and teaching of core French in the intermediate and secondary schools. Students develop a variety of teaching methodologies in the area of core French.

Section 4 is offered in French to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 12:30pm to 3:20pm, August 1 to August 29, 2025.  Classes are also scheduled Friday, August 8 and Friday August 29.

ED-6110-52 Introduction to Research Methods in Education 

In this course, students are introduced to a variety of methods that are appropriate for conducting research in educational settings. Students develop an understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Students are introduced to the process of planning, conducting, and reporting research on learning and instruction, and to the critical analysis of current studies reported in educational literature.

Section 52 is offered on campus our MEd Focus on Inclusive Education (Qualify for PEI Additional Designation), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:20pm, from July 7 to July 11, 2025. 

ED-6190 Critical Pedagogy (2 sections)

In this course, students examine the social conditions and practices that shape education. Students explore schools in their historical, economic, political, cultural, and social contexts.

Section 40 is taught online to students in our MEd Focus on 21st Century Teaching & Learning (Online) from July 2 to August 7, 2025.  Section 76 is taught on campus to students in our MEd Focus on Global Perspectives, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 12:30pm to 3:15pm, May 12 to June 19, 2025.

ED-6260-31  Technology: Leadership in Learning

This course provides an opportunity for students to examine and critique current research trends in information and communication technology in education. Leadership models for the implementation of technology plans are studied and evaluated. A major portion of work for this course takes place in an online learning environment. 

This course is offered online to students in our MEd Cohort for College Educators and Leaders, from May 12 to June 19, 2025. 

ED-6270-76  Global Education

In this course, students examine the theory and practice of global education as it has developed in Canada and elsewhere. Other curriculum innovations that have contributed to global education (e.g., development education, environmental education, human rights education, peace education) are also examined. Interactive and participatory learning methodologies are used to encourage reflection on the teaching of contemporary social and global issues in a variety of educational contexts. 

This course is offered to students in our MEd Focus on Global Perspectives, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 11:50am, July 2 to August 7, 2025.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content.

Qualified candidates with seniority on the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
