The Faculty of Education, ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, invites applications for the full-time position of Bachelor of Education School & Community Liaison. The Bachelor of Education programs include: Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde), and Certificate in Adult Education. 

Reporting directly to the Dean of Education and working as a member of a Bachelor of Education Leadership team, the Bachelor of Education School & Community Liaison establishes, manages, coordinates, and facilitates school placements (in PEI, across Canada and internationally) for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education programs; assists with assigned administrative and policy matters related to the Bachelor of Education programs; and supports the Faculty Coordinators of the Bachelor of Education Committees. 

Approximately 200 placements (local, national, and international) are established in each academic year of the program.  The Bachelor of Education School & Community Liaison communicates verbally and in writing with school district administrators, principals, and teachers as placements are negotiated and confirmed. With members of the Faculty, especially Faculty Program Coordinators, the Bachelor of Education School & Community Liaison leads the drafting, revising, disseminating, and implementing of policies, guidelines and procedures associated with practice teaching including student assessment. The Bachelor of Education School & Community Liaison, working closely with members of the Faculty, will advise, support, supervise, and assess pre-service teachers when necessary, for those experiencing difficulties with practice teaching. Organizing the orientation, placement and monitoring of students participating in international and indigenous placements is also a responsibility of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fostering a positive relationship with relevant educational stakeholders - in PEI and beyond;
  • Liaising with education stakeholders to procure mutually effective student practicum placements;
  • Coordinating communication with pre-service teachers, practicum advisors, cooperating teachers, and school principals regarding practicum and laboratory-school experiences (the actual communication with French-speaking stakeholders will be done by the Coordinator of the BED-FLS, in French);
  • Providing information on the Faculty’s Bachelor of Education programs to potential students as required or assigned by the Dean;
  • Participating in the admissions process for future Bachelor of Education students;
  • Providing support and assistance with the daily operations of the Bachelor of Education programs.
  • Serving on the Bachelor of Education Committees, as appropriate and feasible, and representing the committees at Faculty council when requested by the Faculty Coordinators and/or Dean;
  • Collaborating with the Faculty Coordinators/Dean in resolving student and/or instructor concerns associated with the practicum;
  • Participating in faculty meetings and retreats; 
  • Along with Faculty Coordinators, a) liaising with our student Education Society; examining current policies and initiating new ones, especially with regards to practice teaching; c) building the Bachelor of Education annual calendar and timetable(s); d)  building and overseeing Bachelor of Education student orientations, including program orientation and orientation for international practicum placements; e) assisting with writing program modifications or new program proposals as required; f) advising the Dean on hiring sessional instructors associated with the practicum courses
  • Coordinating and supporting the practicum supervision teams and co-constructing practicum course syllabi and assessment criteria and processes with practicum supervision team members;
  • Support program reviews and accreditation reviews, as required (not anticipated in the coming year); 
  • Other duties as required and assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree and master’s degree in education

  • A valid Canadian Teaching Certificate, and normally several years successful experience as a teacher/administrator

  • Strong leadership skills and administrative and coordinating experience are required

  • Experience supervising and mentoring pre-service teachers is considered a significant advantage, as is a sound knowledge of the school system, especially in PEI, but also across Canada

  • Superior public relations, communication, and conflict resolution skills are required.  The ability to deal sensitively and effectively with a wide range of individuals and the ability to maintain a positive presence are essential

  • The successful candidate will have a commitment to the calls for action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, as well as the ability to act with the lens of equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • Applicants must have their own transportation and a valid driver’s license.  International travel or work experience will be considered an asset

  • Education research experience is considered an asset

  • The ability to work in French is also an important asset given the involvement with the Bachelor of Education- Français langue seconde.
