The ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ (ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to provide timely and efficient accounting and financial analysis support to the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Research Accounting unit. Research Accounting is one of five units that comprise the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Financial Services Office. Research Accounting plays an integral role in supporting the research environment at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ by providing advice, financial accountability and ongoing management of all research funds. This unit works closely with researchers, administrative units, funding agencies and ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Research Services to ensure funding guidelines and policies are adhered to. Research Accounting manages the post-award functions for all research grants and contracts at the university. This includes monitoring cash flows and expenditures, communicating with funding agencies and completing financial reporting. This position will report to the Assistant Manager - Research & External Receivables.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial analysis with attention to details and deadlines, including:

    • Initiate accounts according to funding agreements/contracts

    • Monitor accounts for funding availability and contract compliance

    • Review budgets and expenditures against approved spending

    • Reconcile and analyze research account balances, investigating/resolving discrepancies

    • Prepare financial reports required by various funding agencies

    • Prepare journal entries

  • Assist in coordination of audit requests

  • Assist with research accounts receivable, including invoicing & collections

  • Review and work with relevant confidential and sensitive data

  • Respond to financial requests from Researchers, ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ staff and external funding agency requests

  • Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in business with a concentration in accounting

  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience

  • Experience in budgeting and financial claim preparation 

  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Detailed knowledge and experience working with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database query programs

  • Proven record of providing exceptional customer service

  • Excellent professional, interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and written

  • Experience working in a university setting is not required but would be considered an asset
