Manager of Operations - Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering
$103,364 to $114,605 per annum, prorated to time and term
April 15 to August 4, 2024 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements)
The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) is seeking a Manager of Operations to fill an existing position on a term contract basis for a 16-week period, starting April 15, 2024. The Manager of Operations reports directly to the FSDE Dean. The position provides leadership, supervision, oversight and coordination in support of the general operations of the FSDE鈥檚 undergraduate and graduate programs. This includes support for the undergraduate teaching labs and design clinics; support for faculty and graduate student research activities; supervision of technical staff; and management of building spaces, equipment and other infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and provide direct supervision to the FSDE鈥檚 technical staff members, including coordination of daily work assignments
- Provide operational support for the FSDE鈥檚 teaching labs and design clinics
- Provide operational support for faculty and graduate student research activities
- Provide ongoing advice and recommendations to the Dean regarding program and building operations, budgeting, policies, and procedures
- Work with faculty on the selection and installation of equipment to support research activities
- Provide input for the procurement of equipment, software, materials and other supplies
- Oversee installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and monitoring of all teaching and research equipment
- Oversee the allocation of building space for teaching, design clinics, research and other activities
- Oversee building access and security for students, staff and faculty
- Oversee the FSDE鈥檚 health and safety program and work with faculty, staff and students to implement protocols for safe operations
- Support room coordination and setup for teaching, research and other events
- Work closely with the Industry Partnership Group, design instructors, staff and students to ensure the success of all design clinic projects
- Work closely with faculty, graduate students and other research personnel to support the FSDE鈥檚 research program
- Work closely with Facilities Management, Security Services and IT Systems and Services to coordinate installations and to ensure the building, equipment and other infrastructure is operating properly
- Work with other faculties or programs to provide or retain cross-disciplinary support or expertise
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering field
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Prince Edward Island
- Minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience in staff leadership and supervision
- Demonstrated project management experience and experience coordinating multiple projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with industrial and research equipment and operations, in areas such as robotics and automation, sustainable energy, bioresources, and advanced manufacturing, in a teaching and research environment
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, coordinate projects, and function professionally in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, organizational, and team-work skills
- Excellent computer skills and experience with relevant software applications
