Permanent Track Position - Clinical Librarian - Robertson Library *Amended*

The Robertson Library is the only university library on Prince Edward Island, has a reputation for innovation, and supports 鈥渙pen鈥 approaches to information - open-source software development and use, open access, open data, and open education resources. Over 30 knowledgeable employees 鈥 librarians, support staff and student staff 鈥 provide users with the excellent resources and services that they need to further their teaching, learning, and research.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Clinical Librarian will be a health liaison librarian and will collaborate with colleagues to provide in-depth reference service and instruction to students, graduate students, post-graduate students, faculty, clinicians, and staff, as well as the development and assessment of health-related collections. They will participate in providing support, expertise and instruction for librarian-related aspects of knowledge syntheses and other types of research projects in support of teaching, learning and research at the 秀色短视频.
As a member of the Robertson Library team, the Librarian engages in professional practice, scholarly and professional development activity, and university, professional, and community service. The individual assumes responsibility for coordination of staff and the work of the unit, services or projects as required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. The nature and scope of responsibilities for this and other library positions are expected to change as the Library organization evolves.
DUTIES
Professional Practice
- Integrates equity, diversity, and inclusion in their professional practice.
- Liaison librarian for the Faculty of Medicine and the departments of Biology Applied Human Sciences, Paramedicine, and Master of Applied Health Services Research
- Initiates and maintains contact with faculty in assigned departments and informs them of services and instruction offered to complement research, teaching and learning.
- Provides in-depth research consultations for liaison areas.
- Designs instructional materials and delivers instruction in a variety of contexts.
- Selects print and electronic materials to support assigned liaison areas
- Prepares reports for accreditation and academic program or course reviews.
- Initiates and maintains contact with faculty in assigned departments and informs them of services and instruction offered to complement research, teaching and learning.
- In collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine
- Builds partnerships with the 秀色短视频 Health and Wellness Centre, Medical Home, Health PEI, nurse practitioners, residents, and clinicians to provide information services.
- Provides information services to the clinical system, such as participation in chart rounds, morning report, or other clinical activities and sites which may include early morning or evening which may include early morning or evening participation.
- Provides outreach services to inpatient and outpatient sites across the clinical network.
- Builds partnerships with the 秀色短视频 Health and Wellness Centre, Medical Home, Health PEI, nurse practitioners, residents, and clinicians to provide information services.
- Develops and implements library policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with the Human Health and Knowledge Synthesis Librarian, other colleagues in the Robertson Library, and health librarians from our partner institution, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Scholarly Activities, Professional Development, and Service
- Keeps up-to-date on developments in library services, resources, and technology and on broader issues that affect the practice of librarianship.
- Engages in scholarly, professional development, and service activities under the terms of the Collective Agreement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent).
- Commitment to achieving Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) certification before eligibility for permanency (tenure).
- Minimum two years of professional experience in an academic or medical library setting.
- Professional health or librarian experience in clinical settings.
- Knowledge of the role of a librarian in evidence-based medicine.
- Knowledge of point-of-care tools used in medicine and health sciences.
- Proficiency in the design and delivery of instruction in different user contexts (individual vs. group, in-person vs. online, synchronous vs. asynchronous).
- A student-centred approach to library services.
- Commitment to integrating Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Reconciliation into services, instruction, collection development, and overall professional practice (see: /equity-diversity-and-inclusion).
- Well-developed skills of collaboration, relationship building, and communication
ASSETS
- Four or more years of professional experience in an academic or medical library setting.
- Certification from the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).
- Experience implementing or delivering a library service in collaboration with colleagues and involving other service providers (e.g. starting a clinical librarian program).
- Experience in expert search strategy development in an academic and/or clinical setting.
- Knowledge of the health sciences academic program accreditation process.
- Knowledge of systematic review processes and software.
- Commitment to integrating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Reconciliation in a clinical practice setting.
- Active memberships with health sciences professional organizations and groups.
