The 秀色短视频 held its fifteenth annual Recognition of Founders ceremony today to acknowledge those who have contributed to the University in a significant way. Prior to this special ceremony, 秀色短视频's second annual Donor Picnic recognition event was held to celebrate and thank its many donors who have significantly contributed to the University.

The 2014 founders are Ms. Dulcinea Andrews, Ms. Joy Ikede, and Dr. Frances Gray. Dr. Ian Dohoo was this year's recipient of the Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award, which pays tribute to individuals who have made an exceptional impact on the Atlantic Veterinary College. Jeff Dohoo accepted the award on behalf of his father who was not able to attend the ceremony.

The recognition event was led by macebearer Mr. Lucas MacArthur, President of the 秀色短视频 Student Union; marshall Dr. Susan Dawson; and piper Mr. Matthew MacLaine. Tom Cullen, Chair of the 秀色短视频 Board of Governors acted as the event's master of ceremonies, while Sister Sue Kidd, University Chaplain provided the invocation, and Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, 秀色短视频 President and Vice-Chancellor delivered welcome remarks.

'秀色短视频's Recognition of Founders Ceremony is a time to come together as a community and honour those who have helped us establish who we are today,' said Abd-El-Aziz. 'And we are so proud to honour three strong and worthy recipients as our 2014 Founders, alongside Dr. Dohoo who is well known to both the 秀色短视频 and AVC communities for his exceptional commitment and dedication. On behalf of the institution, I commend you all for your contributions to our University.'

MacArthur, President of the 秀色短视频 Student Union and fourth-year biology student delivered the citation for Andrews; Ms. Joy Ang, third-year foods and nutrition student read Ikede's citation, while Ms. Leah Inman, fourth-year music student, majoring in piano delivered Gray's citation. Dr. Larry Hammell, AVC professor and former graduate student of Dr. Dohoo delivered the citation for the Green Hat Award.

A reception was held immediately following the ceremony in Schurman Market Square, Don and Marion McDougall Hall.

About the Founders:

Ms. Dulcinea Andrews
Dulcinea attended Prince of Wales College (PWC) for grade eleven in 1950-51. Many years passed and as a working mom, she attended PWC to earn her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English in 1969. She succeeded, but a few months into the program the government decided to close PWC and Saint Dunstan's University (SDU) to develop one university and one community college.

In 1968, Dulcinea was appointed to represent the students of PWC on the university and college planning committee. The University Planning Committee (UPC) consisted of administration, senate, board of governors and students.
After receiving her BA, she went on to earn a BEd from 秀色短视频 in 1970. On July 1, she was appointed to the Board of Governors. She was on the final PWC Board, as a student representative, and participated in various stages of the 秀色短视频 transition, including as a member of the search committee that selected former president Ron Baker.

Ms. Joy Ikede
Joy Ikede was 秀色短视频's first International Student Advisor and began her career with 秀色短视频 in 2000. During her time at 秀色短视频, Joy was instrumental in establishing International Development Week in addition to the seasonal gathering for international students.

Joy spent a significant amount of time raising awareness of intercultural education on campus, in addition to internationalizing the campus and enabling positive transitions for international students.
Joy implemented the 'Ambassador Family' program where students were invited to Lt. Governor Barbara Hagerman's home for meals and were treated as part of the family. She secured the international flags in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre, and started an emergency fund for international students in need (and is a primary donor to the fund). She launched the SIS (Society of International Students) and organized their executive elections and governance, and has hosted many students for holiday dinners at her home.

In addition to her work at 秀色短视频 as International Student Advisory and a sessional lecturer in Latin, Joy taught English to new immigrants and volunteered at the Multicultural Council in Charlottetown (what is now PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada).

Dr. Frances Gray
Dr. Frances Gray, pianist, teaches in the areas of Piano Performance, Piano Literature & Pedagogy, Collaborative Piano, and Music Theory. She received her Associate Diploma and Bachelor of Music Degree from McGill University and her Master and Doctor of Music Degrees from Indiana University, where she was a student of Menahem Pressler, renowned teacher and pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio.

Frances is the recipient of many awards and research grants, including a Silver Medal from McGill University, Canada Council Fellowships, and a Commonwealth Scholarship for a year's study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. In 1998, she received a 秀色短视频 award for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement.

Frances has performed throughout Canada, in the United States, at Canadian Embassies in London, England, and Brussels, Belgium, in Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in Russia, and at the University of Melbourne, Australia. At the Banff Centre for the Arts, Frances recorded three solo piano CDs, all of which were nominated for East Coast Music Awards in the Classical category. She has performed a number of times with orchestra, most recently as guest soloist with the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra in the Gershwin Piano Concerto in F. Frances retired in 2014 after a career spanning 45 years teaching music at 秀色短视频, and received Professor Emeritus status during the 2014 Convocation.

Dr. Ian Dohoo
Dr. Ian Dohoo completed his PhD in epidemiology at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph and worked for government before moving to Prince Edward Island to work at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Ian's work built the global reputation of AVC's epidemiology program, which led to the creation of the 秀色短视频 Centre for Veterinary Epidemiologic Research. Ian was also responsible for supervising the AVC's first MSc and PhD graduates in 1988 and 1998 respectively.

Ian is the recipient of numerous awards including, but not limited to, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association's Schering Award for Contributions to Large Animal Veterinary Medicine, Norden Distinguished Teaching Award, Pfizer Award for Research Excellence, and the Hessian Award for Excellence in Teaching. Ian is also one of only five veterinarians elected to the prestigious Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. In 2008, he received an honorary doctorate from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. More recently, he received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Guelph and the Calvin Schwabe Lifetime Achievement Award.

With more than 200 publications and many graduate students, now distributed around the globe, Ian had already put our institution on the world stage. With Henrik Stryhn and Wayne Martin, he added to that reputation by authoring the standard text(s) used for epidemiology curricula in medical and veterinary schools around the world.

The 秀色短视频 Music Department is pleased to present pianist Willem Blois on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30 pm at the 秀色短视频's Dr. Steel Recital Hall. Last spring, Blois was chosen from five accomplished competitors at the Atlantic Young Artist Competition to perform as the 2014 Atlantic Young Artist. Blois will be performing works by Haydn, Prokofiev, Poulenc, Chopin, and Canadian composer Fran莽ois Morel.

Blois has been praised as a musician with tremendous commitment to his craft. Beginning studies in classical piano at a young age, he received a medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music for his final practical exam and won the Piano Rosebowl at the Nova Scotia Provincial Music Festival. Recently, Blois represented Nova Scotia at the Federation of Canadian Music Festival's National Competition in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Blois studied music at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and in Montreal, Quebec. He also attended the Orford Arts Academy, performing in master classes led by Marc Durand and Maneli Pirzadeh. This past spring, Blois graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he studied solo and collaborative piano with Lynn Stodola.

The Atlantic Young Artist Competition and Tour are projects of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations and its provincial counterparts in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. The competition is open to pianists, singers, and instrumentalists who are currently studying with a registered music teacher.

The 秀色短视频 Music Department Concert Series continues in a 'big' way at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall on Friday evening, October 10 at 7:30 pm with Big Band Jazz featuring 秀色短视频 alumni and friends. The 20-piece band will be comprised of well-known PEI musicians and several coming home to 秀色短视频 to participate in this concert. Under the direction of Roger Jabbour, the band will feature music graduates from the 1970s to 2014.

The program will feature jazz standards like Duke Ellington's Caravan, Nat Adderley's The Work Song and Li'l Darlin. Contemporary tunes arranged for Norwegian Wood, Come in from the Rain and Brazil will round out the program.

Many familiar musicians from the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble and other local bands will be featured in the alumni band, including:

Research on Tap returns for its sixth season of public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the 秀色短视频. The series kicks off Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 pm in the Pourhouse above the Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. Dr. Christina Murray, assistant professor of nursing, will lead a discussion entitled 'I didn't get married to be a single mother,' featuring stories of Prince Edward Island women whose husbands work in western Canada.

The 2014-15 season of Research on Tap is presented in cooperation with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Atlantic Chapter. The RSC is Canada's national academy and is the senior national body of distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists.

The 秀色短视频 Men's Hockey Panthers' 2014-15 season includes an opening-night at the Eastlink Centre; 15 returning players and seven new recruits; games in all three PEI counties; partnering in a hockey doubleheader; and its annual Alumni Day.

'We are excited to get the season started and opening at the Eastlink Centre against perennial powerhouse UNB. This will be an opportunity to experience the best the AUS conference offers,' said 秀色短视频 Men's Hockey Head Coach Forbie MacPherson. 'We have a solid group of players returning, and some exciting new players for hockey fans to see during the Thanksgiving weekend.'

The Panthers open the season Saturday, October 11 against UNB at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. Game time is 7:00 pm. Panther season ticket holders can pick up their tickets at Panther Central in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on the 秀色短视频 campus until 4:00 pm on October 11. They will also be available at the will-call window at the Eastlink Centre from 5:00 pm until game time that night.

All tickets for the opening night are general seating and will be on sale at the Eastlink Centre Box Office beginning Monday, October 6, daily from 11:00 am-5:00 pm, and 11:00 am to game time on October 11. The core of the Panthers' 2013-14 team is back including team MVP, CIS second team all-star, and 秀色短视频 Male Athlete of the Year Reggie Traccitto, and second year captain Mason Wilgosh. New recruits include Darcy Ashley and Brent Andrews, formerly of the Halifax Mooseheads; Craig MacLauchlan from the Charlottetown Islanders; Nelson Armstrong from the Peterborough Petes; Nick Czinder from the Kitchener Rangers; Dave Mazurek formely of the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL; Nick Parker from the Pictou County Crushers of the MHL; and goaltender Connor Wilkinson from the Dieppe Commandos of the MHL.

On Saturday, October 25, the Panthers are partnering with the Charlottetown Islanders as part of a hockey doubleheader with the Panthers playing an afternoon game against StFX. The Panthers will also be playing games in all three PEI counties this season. On Saturday, November 22, the Panthers will host Dalhousie at the Cavendish Wellness Centre in Montague; on Saturday, January 3, the Panther will host STU in a fundraising exhibition game at the Tignish Credit Union Arena.

The Panthers have a rich hockey history stretching back to the days of St. Dunstan's University and Prince of Wales College. Alumni players have been organizing a special alumni day in recent seasons to reconnect former players that features alumni games, and special ceremonies, topped off by a 秀色短视频 regular season game. This year's Alumni Day will be held on Saturday, January 24.

The Panthers travel this weekend to Schenectady, New York to play the defending NCAA champions Union College, and then to Troy, NY to take on long-time US College powerhouse Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

'We have been practicing for weeks and played some games two weeks ago in Ontario. These additional games against elite hockey teams will give us as a coaching staff a chance to evaluate our players and better prepare ourselves for the opener against UNB,' MacPherson said.

Why: Iatrou, a fourth-year student-athlete enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program from Timberlea, Nova Scotia is having a great season for the Women's Soccer Panthers. During Saturday's 1-1 tie against Acadia, Iatrou was selected as the player of the game. As a fullback, Iatrou has been solid defensively with strong tackling, composed passing, and an excellent work ethic. Her commitment, attitude, and performance have been outstanding showing strong leadership.

Singh, a third-year science student from Cremona, Italy scored the Panthers lone goal during the Men's Soccer team's 4-1 loss to the Acadia Axemen on Saturday. Playing at the striker position, Singh has given his team a boost of energy and speed each time he gets on the pitch.

Danae Iatrou, Women's Soccer

A prominent American researcher in the field of addictions treatment is coming to Prince Edward Island to give a public talk, and to discuss ways of importing her web-based treatment methods to the Island's healthcare system. Dr. Kathleen Carroll is a Professor of Psychiatry from the Yale School of Medicine. The public is welcome to attend her talk on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:00 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of 秀色短视频's Don and Marion McDougall Hall.

Dr. Carroll is best known for her work in computer-based training for cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT4CBT, which has received multiple awards and recognitions for its success. CBT4CBT is being implemented within the U.S. healthcare system and has been shown in several sites to nearly double the improvement of treatment success for patients struggling with addictions.

'I'm very excited about working with the people of PEI to help them find and implement effective ways of addressing problems of drug and alcohol use,' said Dr. Carroll. 'It's very moving to see the whole Island so committed and positive about change.'

Dr. Carroll comes to Prince Edward Island as a guest of Dr. Juergen Krause, Dean of the School of Business and Director of 秀色短视频's Centre for Health and Biotech Management Research (CHBMR).

'We are proud to be able to collaborate with such a highly decorated clinical researcher and such a renowned institution as the Faculty of Medicine at Yale,' said Dr. Krause. 'We welcome the unique opportunity to be the entry portal for this new treatment support approach to Canada, and to further improve health care delivery in the priority area of mental health and addictions.'

Dr. Carroll's talk will offer more information about this new treatment option for Prince Edward Island and Canada, and will give the public an opportunity to ask questions to learn more.

CLIVE, the coastal erosion visualization tool created by 秀色短视频's Climate Research Lab and the Spatial Interface Lab at Simon Fraser University, has taken first place in the Massachusetts Institute for Technology's (MIT) Center for Collective Intelligence contest on .

Nearly 600 projects were submitted to MIT's Climate CoLab for this year's competition. CLIVE made it through several rounds of competition and broke through to the finals against two other projects. Through the support and votes from the 秀色短视频 community, CLIVE won the Popular Choice, as determined by online voting.

'I just want to say what a wonderful feeling it is that the 秀色短视频 community and campus were so supportive through the competition,' said Dr. Adam Fenech, Director of the 秀色短视频 Climate Lab. 'To win because of the support of a community, that's a nice feeling. I'll not forget this.'

Dr. Fenech and members of his team will be travelling to Cambridge, Massachusetts to receive the award in early November.

The 秀色短视频 Men's Hockey Panthers have landed the second-leading scorer in last year's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the addition of Marcus Power of St. John's, Newfoundland.

Power scored 31 goals and 109 points with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, finishing the season with a +/- rating of +25. His strong season caught the attention of NHL clubs and Power was invited to attend a rookie camp with the Colorado Avalanche. He was invited back to participate in the main camp last month, and was offered a contract to play in the Avalanche system but Power opted to attend 秀色短视频 after committing to the University earlier in the summer.

'At this point in my life, I felt it was best to pursue an education, and I know the AUS is such a good league that it will only help my hockey career going forward,' said Power. 'I like everything I have heard about 秀色短视频. I am excited about the role I am going to be asked to play. It became evident to me early on that if I were to go the CIS route, it would be with the Panthers.'

秀色短视频 Men's Hockey Head Coach Forbes MacPherson said the addition of Power is huge for his team. 'Marcus is big, strong, and talented. In the Q last year, only Jonathan Druin (Halifax Mooseheads) had more assists than Marcus, so that gives you an idea of how well he sees the ice and how well he distributes the puck,' said MacPherson. 'I expect players like Chris DeSousa, Tyler Brown, Darcy Ashley, and others will benefit from the offensive abilities of Marcus Power.'

Power says another reason he has chosen to become a student-athlete at 秀色短视频 was because of his consultations with his former junior coach Connor Cameron, a former Panther and current assistant coach with the Charlottetown Islanders. 'Connor told me what kind of coach Forbes is, how far the team has come, and how well I am going to fit in. Connor was my coach and has become my friend, and I put a lot of trust in what he had to say.'

At six-foot-one, 190 lbs., Power says he prides himself on being a player who competes and succeeds in both ends of the rink. While he knows he will be counted on to put up numbers and create scoring opportunities, Power also knows the top centres in the AUS have to be well rounded. 'I like to think there are many positive aspects to my game. In junior I put up some good numbers, but I also played the role of shut down centre,' said Power. 'I want to be counted on to be on the ice when the game is on the line. That is what top end centres have to do.'

Power is enrolled in the arts program at 秀色短视频. He says he is in the best shape of his life and looking forward to being in the line-up for the season opener October 11 vs. UNB at Eastlink Centre. 'I'm ready to go. It should be a great atmosphere, and hopefully we can go out and get the 鈥榃.''
