The program "Off the Beaten Track" offers a variety of courses in the areas of anthropology and ethnography in Europe that students can take for course credit.

Summer Programs 2024

Summer Study Abroad Opportunities with ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Partner Schools

Finland: Turku Abo Summer School (open to ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ students as a North2North partner school)

Deadline to apply is January 9 to April 14, 2024

Turko Abo Summer School offers 17 topical, wide-ranging and fully accredited courses from the key areas of five higher education institutions in the Turku region. Get the latest insights on topics ranging from game design and social sustainability to financing and urban planning and much more! Most of the courses are taught on-site and require presence in Turku, Finland August 5–16, 2024. In addition, there are four self-paced online courses that you can take part in anywhere. Special low course fees! Course fees vary between 50–75 Euro.


Korea: Dankook University's International Summer School 2024

The application portal will open February 1; deadlines for applying are between February 1, 2024 and April 30, 2024

Students also need to complete their online application by:

  • March 15, 2024 - if applying for the Global Village + Academic Program
  • April 30, 2024 - if applying for the Academic Program only
  • May 31, 2024 - if applying for the Korean Immersion Program only

This is a yearly recurring series of summer programs taking place in late June, July and August at Dankook University, South Korea and is organized by the ISS team of DKU's Office of International Affairs. Their office has been running the program since 2009 and over the years have had the pleasure to welcome hundreds of international students from all around the globe.

The International Summer School is divided into three programs over the course of summer: the Global Village in June–July, the Academic Program in July, and the Korean Immersion Program in August.

To summarize, the Global Village is a unique three-week teaching internship program where participants teach conversation classes in their mother language to small groups of DKU students, before continuing to the Academic Program.

In the four-week Academic Program participants can attend one or two interesting academic courses taught by international and DKU faculty. During the week after classes and on Saturdays, participants can participate in fun cultural activities like K-pop dance, Taekwondo, Temple Stay, and many more.

Finally, the Korean Immersion Program is a three-week program in August where participants will be immersed in Korean language and culture by taking intensive Korean classes and joining various fun cultural activities to learn about Korean culture.

Finland: Jyvaskyla University Summer School 2024

Do you want to advance your academic expertise in STEM–science, technology, engineering, mathematics–during the summer break, and create scientific networks and memories? Jyväskylä Summer School offers you a unique academic and cultural journey that gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself and develop your skills in your field of interest. You also get the chance to spend time in an international and interdisciplinary science community.

Jyväskylä Summer School, organized at the University of Jyväskylä this year for the 33rd time, offers high-quality courses for advanced Master’s students, PhD students and post-docs in various fields of natural sciences, mathematics and information technology. All courses are taught in English by distinguished researchers from different parts of the world.

Participation in all Summer School courses is free of charge. Students from all over the world are encouraged to apply.

The majority of the 33rd Jyväskylä Summer School courses fall under the following three themes:

Costs

Participation in all Summer School courses is free of charge. Participants are responsible for covering their own meals, accommodation and all costs related to travel as well as possible visa costs.

USA: Western Carolina University (WCU) Summer Term 2024

WCU, located in North Carolina in the US is offering a number of unique and exciting opportunities for summer 2024. Students enjoy small classes, the chance to explore new subjects, fulfill liberal studies requirements, or even lighten their course load. Summer study at WCU is similar to regularly one or two semester study abroad exchanges.

Japan: Waseda Summer Session 2024 

  • Online application period: February 26 to March 22, 2024
  • Summer program duration and dates: six weeks, from June 15–July 26, 2024

Together with Waseda students, participating students will fully explore Waseda and Tokyo, which is consistently ranked high among the best cities to visit in the world.

Students will choose 2 courses to take during the month-long program. You can take part in the courses which cover a variety of interests including business, culture, economics, history, literature and art, politics and sociology in the context of Japan and Asia.

The courses are taught in English by experienced faculty members from Waseda and visiting professors from the top global universities.

Japan: SEINAN Summer Japanese Program 2024 (yet to be confirmed)

The application for the in-person SEINAN Summer Japanese Program information is open!

Application Deadline: March 31, 2024

The SEINAN program features several on/off-campus experiences-based learning taking advantage of being in Japan. You will come out of the program having learned and/or improved your Japanese language skills!

Dates of the program will be June 19 to July 19, 2024.

The SEINAN Summer Japanese program has been successfully running for almost 20 years and has recently expanded to offer Japanese language education experiences for more students.

European Studies Summer School: July 7–20

  • Short description: During the summer school, students will study the political, economic, cultural and social achievements and challenges of the European Union, as well as expand their knowledge on topics such as the art history, gastronomy and folk traditions of Europe. They will broaden their perspectives about the contributing factors that led to contemporary Europe, including migration, cultural diversity, gender issues.
  • Who can apply: The program is open to undergraduate, graduate and PhD students
  • Credits offered: 6 ECTS credits
  • Program fee: 1050 EUR

Leadership Skills Summer School: July 7–20

  • Short description: The aim of the course is for students to become familiar with the leadership skills necessary to become effective, purposeful and good leaders. The main topic areas include leadership styles, strategic thinking, effective communication, team building, time management, responsibility and assertiveness.
  • Who can apply: The program is open to undergraduate, graduate and PhD students
  • Credits offered: 6 ECTS credits
  • Program fee: 1050 EUR

Combined European Studies and Leadership Skills program: July 3–August 1

  • Who can apply: The program is open to undergraduate, graduate and PhD students
  • Credits offered: 12 ECTS credits
  • Program fee: 2250 EUR

International Human Rights Law and Debate Academy: July 3–August 1

  • Short description: The summer school will address some of the most typical issues of international human rights, including the protection of human rights in armed conflicts, the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights, the right to asylum versus national security, the human rights implications of AI systems and algorithmic decision-making, etc. The debate course will provide students with introduction to argumentation theory, rhetoric, and with practical skills-building exercises in debate and public speaking.
  • Who can apply: Law students
  • Credits offered: 11 ECTS credits
  • Program fee: 2500 EUR
