Ms. Lesli Bisgould, BA, LLP will present her lecture鈥�"Power and Irony: Why Animals Have No Legal Rights in Canada鈥擸et" as this year's Thane Campbell Lectureship in Law on Friday, October 4 at 1:30 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium (Room 242) in Don and Marion McDougall Hall. Ms. Bisgould has been practicing law since 1992, focusing on animal law and animal rights. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto鈥檚 faculty of law where she teaches a course on animals and the law. She is the author of Animals and the Law (2011), a Canadian law textbook published by Irwin Law. This free lecture is sponsored by 秀色短视频 and the Law Foundation of Prince Edward Island. The Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training are conducting a survey of young adults who have made their transition from secondary school to their next step (whether it be post-secondary, work, or other endeavours). Eligibility criteria: current student, has tried post-secondary but did not continue, or decided to work after secondary school. The survey, which is part of a larger project to research the strengths and gaps in the school-based delivery of career development services and best practices for strengthening career education, takes approximately 15鈥�25 minutes to complete and is available in English and French. Participation is voluntary and all responses are anonymous and confidential. Those who complete the survey will be eligible to win an iPad! The campus community is invited to attend the 2013 Trudeau Lecture entitled: "Picking Up The Pieces: Seeking Out The Roots Of Violence Against Indigenous Women" on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, Don and Marion McDougall Hall. In the first Trudeau Lecture to come to the 秀色短视频, beloved M茅tis author and playwright Maria Campbell, 2012 Trudeau Fellow, talks about the connection between her volunteering, her academic career, and her work in literature, theatre, and video to end violence against women. Growing up in a Road Allowance M茅tis community in northern Saskatchewan, Dr. Campbell witnessed the power that women in her community exercised, as well as the violence they experienced. A lifelong student of Indigenous oral history, she will speak to what she has learned of traditional ways that fostered respect and authority for Aboriginal women, and about how colonization disrupted those ways and introduced gendered violence. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

"Introduction to Japanese Pop Culture" lecture by The Consul General of Japan at Montreal, Mr. Tatsuo Arai will take place on Monday, September 30 at 2:15 pm in AVC's Lecture Theatre B. This presentation goes beyond ancient culture, rich traditions, and Zen gardens, and speaks to the modern world which is filled with manga, anime, video games, and innumerable aspects of Japanese pop culture catered to the interests of today鈥檚 youth. All are welcome to attend!

The annual Community Connector Volunteer Fair will be taking place on Wednesday, October 2, 11:00 am鈥�2:00 pm in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The seminar, entitled "Male Sterility in Plants: For Fun and Profit" will take place on Friday, September 27 in the Duffy Science Centre, Room 204, 12:30鈥�1:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

We will begin renovations in the lower level east end of Steel Building on Monday, September 30, which will include some walls being removed, new flooring in some rooms, ceiling repairs, and painting. Construction is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete. The general contractor is WM&M (1993) Ltd. These renovations are to provide space for Kinesiology. While the contractors have been instructed that the work be executed with the least possible interference or disturbance to the campus community, a certain amount of disruption is inevitable. The 秀色短视频 has adopted an enhanced system and new design for the 秀色短视频 CampusCard, which serves as the official identification card for students, staff, and faculty. The card allows entry into campus buildings and gated parking lots and access to photocopying, residence laundry, meal plans, Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre memberships, and Robertson Library services. The new card system allows users to load credits to their 秀色短视频 CampusCard via a secure website as well as at several campus locations. Incoming and returning students are already being issued the new card, and now that the majority of student cards have been processed, staff and faculty are encouraged to replace their old card as soon as possible. Staff and faculty are encouraged to visit upei.ca/campuscard for more information on what is required and where to obtain the new 秀色短视频 CampusCard.
