The ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Music department is pleased to present a series of junior and senior recitals throughout the month of March. Nik Dragatakis (jazz guitar) and Cora Wong (flute) will be presenting their junior recital on Friday, March 15 at 7:30 pm. Cora’s junior recital program will feature works of Bach, Feld, Clarke, and Casella. Cora will be accompanied by Frances McBurnie. Jazz guitarist Nik Dragatakis will be performing jazz classics by Kenny Wheeler, Jimmy VanHeusen, Wayne Shorter, and Bobby Timmons. His trio will feature Isaac Williams on bass and Patrick LeClair on drums. Nik will also be joined by guest performers Robyn Verhoeven on trumpet and Dan Rowswell on alto saxophone. Nik studies jazz guitar with Ian Toms. The recitals take place in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Admission is free For information, contact Susan Stensch music@upei.ca or 566-0507
Dr. Gordon MacDonald, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ will present a seminar on Wednesday, March 13 at 3:00 pm. The title of Dr. MacDonald’s presentation is “Universal bounds for Matrix semi-groups." No background beyond basic linear algebra is required to follow the talk. Journal-Pioneer story quotes Dr. Sophie St-Hilaire, Canada Research Chair and associate professor of aquatic health management New Research Blog post--"Watch: why is it so difficult to find the voices of women in history?" The ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ research blog spoke with Dr. Sarah Glassford, assistant professor of history, for a post that went out on International Women's Day. Dr. Glassford discusses why it is so difficult to find the voices of women in history. She also describes how she teaches that concept in History/Women's Studies 286. We know that a healthy lifestyle, support, balance, and being part of a caring community are integral to positive mental health. Join Student Affairs and the Canadian Mental Health Association for three unique mental health workshops on stress management, community resources, and counselling. As a part of Mental Health Week at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, check out the following workshops. Stress Management Location: Student Affairs, Boardroom A Time: 11:30 am–12:30 pm This workshop helps individuals identify the main contributors to work/life stress, and learn coping strategies to achieve a sense of balance, satisfaction and success in their family and work lives. Presented by Reid Burke, Executive Director of Canadian Mental Health Association (PEI division) this workshop will also focus on community resources in support of mental health. Bringing Yoga off the Mat Location: Student Affairs, Boardroom A Time: 1:00–1:50 pm Did you ever wonder what people meant when they said that yoga has many benefits? Did you know that all of these benefits weren’t just physical? This workshop is geared to motivate others to bring the concepts applied in yoga class, off the mat and into their everyday lives. No previous yoga experience or a mat are required for this workshop. Counselling 101: What really happens behind closed doors? Location: Student Affairs, Boardroom A Time: 2:30–3:30 pm What really happens in counselling? Is it for me? Will it help my friend? Counselling as a process seems to bring a lot of questions for people. This conversation-based workshop, hosted by a counsellor with Student Affairs is intended for students, staff and faculty who have questions on counselling.

Tim began studying classical guitar in April 2008 with Dr. Jim Dickson and is now studying with Paul Bernard. Tim will be graduating this spring from ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ with a bachelor of music in guitar performance. His recital will feature works by Bach, Tarrega, Dominiconi and Albeniz,Villa-lobos.
